Opportunity: Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami - Director, National Centre for Inuit Education

Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) is the national voice of 55,000 Inuit living in 53 communities across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (Northwest Territories), Nunavut, Nunavik (Northern Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador), land claims regions.  Inuit call this vast region Inuit Nunangat.  Founded in 1971, ITK represents the interests of Inuit on a wide variety of environmental, social, cultural, and political, issues and challenges facing Inuit on the national level.

ITK is in the process of establishing a National Centre for Inuit Education to manage the implementation of the recently released First Canadians, Canadians First: National Strategy on Inuit Education, the first-ever national initiative focused on improving outcomes in Inuit education. This Strategy provides recommendations to address the achievement gap in Inuit education.  ITK is seeking an energetic candidate for the position of Director, National Centre for Inuit Education to direct the establishment of the National Centre for Inuit Education and the implementation of the National Strategy on Inuit Education.

The Candidate will be responsible for managing the design, development, implementation and monitoring of projects and initiatives including the planning, budgeting, and establishment of the National Centre for Inuit Education.  She/he will work closely with regional representatives from Regional Inuit Organizations (RIOs), regional Departments of Education and/or School Boards, the Government of Canada, National Inuit Organizations and external funding partners to implement the National Strategy on Inuit Education.
