With a rich history of over 40 years, the Ontario Native Women’s
Association (ONWA) is a provincial network of Aboriginal women working together
to achieve equality and justice for Aboriginal women, their families and
communities. ONWA supports and empowers
Aboriginal women and their families through research, advocacy, policy
development and programs with a focus on local, regional and provincial
activities. ONWA is a unified voice for
equity, equality and justice for Aboriginal women through cultural restoration within
and across Nations.
The organization is committed to being the voice of Aboriginal women
in Ontario and to building relationships with all levels of government and
other organizations to ensure all Aboriginal women and their families will live
free from social and economic distress: to promote their sacred roles as valued
and respected members in the community; and to preserve their culture, language
and heritage. Affiliated with the Native
Women’s Association of Canada, ONWA delivers culturally enriched programs and
services to Aboriginal women and their families regardless of their status or
locality. Headquartered in Thunder Bay,
programs and services are available throughout the province via satellite
offices located in Kenora, Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Geraldton/Greenstone, Ottawa,
Napanee and Hamilton.
Reporting to a provincial Board of Directors, as the Executive
Director you will provide leadership, passion and commitment to the
organization while leading, coaching and mentoring a highly motivated team. Respected as a strategic leader with strong
negotiation abilities and political savvy, you will oversee multiple projects,
programs and funding as well as act as a spokesperson for the organization.
