Inuit
Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) is the national voice of 55,000 Inuit living in 53
communities across the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (Northwest Territories),
Nunavut, Nunavik (Northern Quebec) and Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador), land
claims regions. Inuit call this vast
region Inuit Nunangat. Founded in 1971,
ITK represents the interests of Inuit on a wide variety of environmental,
social, cultural, and political, issues and challenges facing Inuit on the
national level.
ITK
is in the process of establishing a National Centre for Inuit Education to
manage the implementation of the recently released First Canadians,
Canadians First: National Strategy on Inuit Education, the first-ever national
initiative focused on improving outcomes in Inuit education. This Strategy provides recommendations to
address the achievement gap in Inuit education.
ITK is seeking an energetic candidate for the position of Director, National Centre for Inuit
Education to direct the establishment of the National Centre for Inuit
Education and the implementation of the National Strategy on Inuit
Education.
The Candidate will be responsible for
managing the design, development, implementation and monitoring of projects and
initiatives including the planning, budgeting, and establishment of the
National Centre for Inuit Education. She/he
will work closely with regional representatives from Regional Inuit Organizations
(RIOs), regional Departments of Education and/or School Boards, the Government
of Canada, National Inuit Organizations and
external funding partners to implement the National Strategy on Inuit Education.
