The matrix should match your organization’s strategic plan and the competencies and functional expertise that your board will need for the next 2 - 3 years.
Each board
member completes a skills assessment matrix. The chair of the governance
committee or board chair ensures the matrix accurately reflects each director’s
skills, expertise and experience. Next,
you input everyone’s individual assessments into the master matrix tool and in
turn are able to get a very good overview of where the board is strong, as well
as the gaps, and skills you can target when recruiting new members.
This tool
should greatly assist as you recruit new board members or develop training and
education for your board.
