Nestled in southern Ontario very close to northern
Michigan, and at the mouth of the St. Clair River, Walpole Island First Nation
(WIFN) is blessed with a unique ecosystem including 6,900 hectares of the most
diverse wetlands in the beautiful Great Lakes Basin. Traditional activities
including hunting, fishing, trapping, and guiding remain central to the
economic base and cultural integrity of WIFN. With a continued focus on
community and economic development, WIFN continues to develop new ventures and
government partnerships in recreational tourism, agriculture and services.
Reporting to the
Chief and Council, the Director of Finance is a new position created to meet WIFN’s
current administrative and growing business activities. WIFN is positioned well for strategic
economic development and expansion. This
role will be attractive to a seasoned financial professional who enjoys
contributing as a key member of a management team, being hands-on and carrying
out a full range of controllership and financial activities as well as
preparing and analyzing business plans and investment strategies. The Director of Finance will oversee the
day-to-day financial activities of the First Nation including: budgeting,
analyses, financial reporting, preparation of financial statements, month-end
and year-end reports, developing and implementing financial controls and
systems, monitoring compliance and oversight of investments and trusts.
