Faculty Position – Department of Interdisciplinary Programs

Under new and dynamic leadership, with a focused and forward-thinking mandate, First Nations University of Canada is inviting exceptional scholars to apply for a new and exciting tenure-track position for the Department of Interdisciplinary Programs at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. This role will appeal to those who enjoy teaching from an Indigenous perspective in intimate and interactive class settings with a strong commitment to research and community service within Aboriginal communities.

With approximately 1,200 students and over 45 full-time faculty at three campuses, First Nations University provides an opportunity for students of all nations to learn in an environment of First Nations cultures and values. Duties and Qualifications:
The successful candidate will instruct, from an Indigenous perspective, a variety of introductory, senior undergraduate and graduate courses in Indigenous Studies. She/he will engage in active community-based research and community service within Aboriginal communities.

Ability to develop new curriculum and conduct research on areas of Indigenous knowledge related to Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), Natural Resources development, traditional and modern Indigenous land use, management and stewardship, or economic development and sustainability would be ideal. Experience in Indigenous business, economics, law, environmental studies, or other relevant areas of Indigenous studies, are considered an asset.

You should have a PhD, though consideration may be given to those nearing completion of a PhD who can clearly demonstrate commitment to both teaching and research experience in relevant areas.

Experience working, teaching, or living in a First Nations environment and ability to speak a First Nations language are considered assets.
